How to choose your wedding suit
Season, colour, cut, waistcoat: the advice we give grooms-to-be in our shops.
It is often the suit chosen with the greatest care, and the one you will see for longest in the photographs. Four questions are enough to see things clearly: the season, the time of the ceremony, the colour, and what you will do with it afterwards.
The season decides the cloth
A July wedding does not dress like a November wedding. In summer, you want a cloth that breathes: a linen canvas, a tropical wool, a blend of wool and mohair, at around 230 to 240 g. In winter, a 310 g wool or a 340 g flannel hangs better and keeps you warm as you leave the ceremony. Our Kensington in navy ‘grain de caviar’, in 290 g Super 130’s wool, can be worn all year round.
The time decides the outfit
A suit is right for almost every wedding. For a very formal daytime ceremony, English tradition offers the morning coat; for an evening, the dinner suit. We explain these customs in Suit, morning coat or dinner suit.
What colour for a wedding suit?
Navy remains the safest choice: it suits almost everyone and is easy to wear again. Grey, plain or in Prince of Wales check, is softer and very elegant by day. Our navy and royal blue Prince of Wales check, more discreet than in grey, goes from the office to ceremonies. Beige and linen tones suit summer weddings in the country. Bolder colours have more character: they are for those who already enjoy wearing them.

The three-piece, the groom’s trump card
A waistcoat changes the look of a suit. It dresses the silhouette, holds the tie in place and lets you take off your jacket late in the evening without losing your outfit. At WICKET, it is available as an option on many of our suits: a six-button single-breasted waistcoat.
English cut or Italian cut?
Our English cuts, the Kensington and the Hampstead, are single-breasted and fitted: they are the most formal, ideal for a classic ceremony. Our Italian cuts, the Turin and the Rome, are softer and unstructured. They come into their own when the day is long and the weather is hot.
Think ahead
A wedding suit does not have to stay in its garment bag. A navy or a grey will serve you at the office and at your friends’ weddings. A paler suit will see you through fine summer weekends.

Come and try it on
Bring your shoes and the shirt you plan to wear: the length of the trousers and the sleeves is judged with them. If your size or the cloth you have in mind is not in the shop, our special order starts from our cuts to make your suit.
